North Carolina poet finds a soft spot with mayors

North Carolina poet, Kym Gordon Moore began a personal crusade to reach as many mayors in the state of North Carolina to issue a Mayoral Proclamation in celebration of National Poetry Month. She was delighted and surprised to see so many mayors respond to helping spread the word about this month-long poetry celebration, which was inaugurated in 1996 by the Academy of American Poets. Moore is also a member of the Academy. She is working on her TheraPoetry Project (therapeutic poetry) to use in the community, where writing the written word can be a healing tool.

PRLog (Press Release) – Mar. 31, 2014 – CHARLOTTE, N.C. — March 31, 2014 Charlotte, NC– In celebration of National Poetry Month, North Carolina poet, Kym Gordon Moore, author of Wings of the Wind: A Cornucopia of Poetry started an independent crusade to spread this month-long celebration throughout mayoral chambers across the state of North Carolina. Moore expounded on the idea of reviving the spirit of poetry when she noticed her conversations with several elected officials encompassed their love or admiration of poetry. This began a personal crusade for Moore to invite North Carolina mayors to issue Mayoral Proclamations recognizing April as National Poetry Month.

National Poetry Month, inaugurated by the Academy of American Poets in 1996 is celebrated every April. Schools, publishers, libraries, booksellers and poets throughout the United States band together to celebrate poetry and its vital place in American culture.
