Never before has man had such a great capacity to control his own environment, to end hunger, poverty and disease, to banish illiteracy and human misery. We have the power to make the best generation of mankind in the history of the world.   ~President John F. Kennedy

Humanitarianism is still alive and well. On Saturday October 23, 2010 millions of volunteers participated in the annual Make A Difference Day. This largest national day of volunteerism is sponsored by USA WEEKEND Magazine, in partnership with HandsOn Network and Newman’s Own. Be sure to check out this recap of the day’s events and includes a sample of how so many people did something spectacular to touch the hearts of so many.

Our hats off to everyone who participated in this annual day of giving in October. More importantly, we want to applaud everyone who volunteers throughout the year to make a difference in his or her community. You will be blessed for your unselfish acts of kindness.

I’ve learned that you shouldn’t go through life with a catcher’s mitt on both hands.  You need to be able to throw something back.  ~Maya Angelou
